This is a piece of advice from a girl who craves chocolate at crazy times of the day: always always have some good quality chocolate and cocoa powder in your pantry because sooner or later, you will be needing them!

This delicious velvety double chocolate mug cake is great for days when you want some chocolate cake but don't want to do all the work, and perhaps like me, don't have any interest instore-made stuff. That's even less time than TV ads! Then you can grab your mug cake, top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and voila! Happiness in a mug!

Quite easy right?

Unfortunately, no. Mug cake recipes on Unicorns in the Kitchen are solely developed for microwave therefore I advise you not to make this chocolate mug cake in the oven.

Can I use water instead of milk in a mug cake? ›

It is entirely possible to change this recipe to make it without milk. If it is an issue with lactose intolerance or other dietary restrictions, you can use almond milk, cashew milk, or oat milk. An almond cashew blend is my particular favorite. If you'd prefer not to have any milk at all, you can use water instead.

What makes a cake more fluffy? ›

The most crucial tip? Instead of buying an entire box of cake flour, simply incorporate two tablespoons of cornstarch into 3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour. This blocks the formation of gluten in the flour, which produces a lighter, fluffier cake.

Do you put eggs in mug cake? ›

So for a single-serving mug cake, just skip the egg; a whole egg will overpower the small amount of batter (and it's pretty tough to divide an egg in quarters). Luckily, you don't need the egg—a pinch of baking powder is enough to help the batter rise up the sides of the mug.

Why did my cake come out like rubber? ›

A rubbery cake can be a result of various factors, from overmixing the batter to incorrect measurements or overbaking. It's essential to pay close attention to these details to ensure your baked creations come out just the way you want them.

Why did my cake turn out gummy? ›

Why does my cake have a gummy streak in the center? Developing too much of the flour's gluten can make the cake rise beautifully in the oven, but sink as soon as you pull it out. The sinking part is what makes the dense and gluey streaks. This can be result of over-creaming the eggs, butter and sugar.

Why does my cake feel chewy? ›

Over-beating

Not only does it make your cake chewy, it also beats the air out of your batters and makes your sponge cake not spongey at all.
